50 years of
experience and undivided attention.
Forty years ago he won the first RAIA
Wilkinson Award for Domestic Architecture for a courtyard
house at Hunters Hill.
Last year he designed a sensitive extension to double its
size.
Five years ago he left his busy Sydney
practice to concentrate on house design, which he regards
as the crucible of good architecture.
He believes that Modernism is less
a style than a way of thinking about life and buildings; no Federation, Tuscan or other
historical pastiches.
Don Gazzard designs only one house at a
time and considers the landscaping as important as the
house.
